Professional expansion is often celebrated before it is examined. More responsibility, more visibility, more income — each looks like ascent.
This edition asks what the opportunity requires beyond the offer letter, and whether it leaves you more whole.
Audit the full price
List the unwritten costs: hours, travel, emotional labor, identity shifts, rearranged relationships. The real price is rarely in the title.
If the cost includes your health, values, or closest relationships, it is not a promotion. It is a trade.
Ask what larger you will become
Expansion should deepen your voice, not replace it. Ask whether the role will make you more of yourself or more of who others need you to be.
The question is not can you do it. It is will it leave you aligned.
