Discernment and the Cost of the Yes

We close the series with Discernment, because it is the pillar that keeps the other five intact.

Alignment, self-authority, clarity, embodiment, and navigation all fail the same way: through one more yes that no one budgeted for.

So read the invoice. Every yes is paid for with hours already promised somewhere else. Ask what is being taken from, not just what is being added to.

If you cannot name the payment, you are not agreeing — you are guessing.

And then decline well. Thank you for thinking of me. I am not able to give this what it needs right now.

That is a complete answer. A clean no protects the relationship far better than a resentful yes ever has.
